Long sentences for homophobic murder
Four men were sentenced on Wednesday to long prison terms by a Spanish court for the high-profile murder of 24-year-old Samuel Luiz.
The homophobic murder took place in A Coruña in the summer of 2021, when Luiz was beaten to death outside a nightclub.
The men were sentenced to prison for between 24 and ten years.

At 9 p.m., the police were alerted to an assisted living facility in western Stockholm.
There, a resident had attacked the staff with a knife.
An employee received minor injuries, but not from the knife but in another way, the police write on their website.
When the police arrived, the staff had overpowered the resident.
The incident is being investigated as attempted murder and the police have made various seizures at the residence.

The identity of Israeli soldiers must be concealed
Israel’s military has decided to withhold the identities of all soldiers participating in combat, following attempts to prosecute Israeli soldiers traveling abroad for war crimes, the Times of Israel reports.
The military’s new rules for the media mean that any interview with an officer who has a higher rank than brigadier general will be done anonymously, similar to how it already works for pilots and people from the special forces.
All soldiers will be subject to the rules.
The persons must also not be able to be linked to a specific combat event.
Media footage will need to be approved by the military’s Censorship and Information Security Department.

Man arrested for attempted murder of woman
Just before 9pm on Wednesday evening, the police were called to an apartment dispute in Mölndal.
There, it was discovered that a woman had been injured in the head by an object. A 35-year-old man was arrested on the spot, and is now suspected of attempted murder.
According to early information to the police, the man and woman know each other.
The woman must have been awake and talkative. She has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

A man in his 30s was this evening abused by unknown perpetrators in Landstingsparken on Kungsholmen in Stockholm.
The man is said to have been kicked, punched and also stabbed with a knife-like object.
– He bled and had to go by ambulance to hospital, says Daniel Wikdahl at the police in Stockholm.
The victim has not been able to provide any apparent explanation for what happened or tell who attacked him.
– But he was awake and articulate, says Daniel Wikdahl.
The incident is classified as aggravated assault.
It is still unknown why the man was attacked.
No suspected perpetrator has been arrested.

Young women detained for explosion in Gothenburg
Two women in their 20s have been detained on suspicion of being behind an explosion in Gothenburg, local media reports.
Last Saturday evening, an explosion occurred at an apartment building in the Kålltorp district. No people were injured.
The two suspects were arrested shortly thereafter and later detained.
On Wednesday, the women were arrested on probable cause on suspicion of public destruction and gross violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods.

Nicaragua shuts down Save the Children
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has shut down Save the Children and 14 other NGOs in the country, according to decree.
Since returning to power in 2007, Ortega has acted increasingly authoritarian, and his government has since 2018 shut down more than 5,000 NGOs in a crackdown on dissent.
The Ministry of the Interior claims that Save the Children, which operates in more than 100 countries, has itself requested to be disbanded.
The organization’s branch that operates in Latin America and the Caribbean declined to comment on the closure.
The government has already shut down the Canadian branch of Save the Children’s operations in Nicaragua.

A man in his 70s has been hit by a train in Frövi outside Lindesberg.
“The man was at a station area when he was hit by the train in an currently unclear manner,” the police write on their website.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries should not be life-threatening.

Lufthansa to hire 10,000
German airline Lufthansa is set to hire around 10,000 people during the year, a sign of the industry’s recovery after the covid-19 pandemic.
According to a statement, the airline is now looking for 800 pilots and 2,000 flight attendants, while technicians, other ground staff and various types of administrators make up the rest.
During the pandemic, the Lufthansa group – which also owns several other airlines and industry players – cut approximately 30,000 jobs but has since hired.
Last year, the workforce increased by 13,000, according to board member Michael Niggemann.
The Lufthansa group has over 100,000 employees in roughly 90 countries.

The police are on the scene in a residential area in Bredäng in southern Stockholm during Wednesday evening.
They are investigating a suspected serious crime.
One place is blocked off. According to information to Aftonbladet, it is a suspected dangerous object.
– We have several patrols there. I cannot go into more details at the moment, says Daniel Wikdahl, press spokesperson at the Stockholm Police.
The suspected dangerous object has been found indoors in an apartment building, the police write on their website.
The national bomb shelter is currently in place and the police have had the residents housed in their apartments.

Man arrested – broke Expressen’s reception
On Wednesday evening, a man broke several glass panes and smashed furniture in the reception of Bonnier’s newspaper house on Kungsholmen in Stockholm.
In the house you can find Expressen, Dagens Nyheter and Dagens industri, among others.
The police were called to the scene at 6pm and arrested the man. The police state that they used pepper spray during the arrest.
The case is classified as serious damage and unlawful trespass.

15-year-old charged with school shooting in Huddinge
A 15-year-old boy is charged with attempted murder after the shooting at a school in Huddinge at the beginning of September last year where a 14-year-old boy was injured, reports P4 Stockholm.
The boy who was arrested and detained after the shooting is also suspected of serious weapons offenses and preparation for murder. He is a student at the school.
In addition, an evidentiary action has been brought against a person who is under 15 years of age. The person is suspected of, among other things, preparation for murder and aggravated weapons offences, according to the radio channel.
The shooting occurred in a restricted area where no one other than those involved were present.
