Long reserved for iPhone users, Free Visual Voicemail is finally available in an Android version. A very practical tool to view messages much more easily.

Old-fashioned voicemail, where you have to call a number to check the messages you’ve been left with, one after the other, has become obsolete. Today, we can instead take advantage of Visual Voicemail (VVM), a kind of mailbox for voice messages. They allow you to view these messages in list form, like SMS messages. This allows you to choose which message to listen to, in what order, and even to read a verbatim transcription. In short, it’s much more practical!

For Free customers, visual voicemail has been present on iPhones since 2007. But until now, it was not available on Android smartphones. And at the beginning of October 2024, the operator is finally filling this gap by activating this essential function, obviously free.

Visual voicemail: a standard feature on Android

Free’s competitors all offer MVV on Android smartphones. At Bouygues Telecom, the function is activated on the Google Telephone application. For SFR and Orange, on the other hand, it is a full-fledged application that must be installed, called Visual Voicemail and Responder+. In short, until now, Free was clearly behind its competitors on this point.

On simple.

Free visual voicemail: how to activate it on Android?

To take advantage of MVV on Android at Free, it is necessary to meet certain criteria, depending on the smartphone you own. Honor users must have a phone released in 2022 or later, while Samsung models must run at least One UI 5.1 (under Android 13). Finally, for all others (Xiaomi, Nokia, Google Pixel, etc.), MVV is included in the Google Phone application, from version 139.

As Free explains on its support pagevisual voicemail is supposed to activate automatically if your device is compatible and connected to the network. If this is not the case, log in to your Free Mobile Subscriber Area, then go to the “My Mobile Plan” section. Click on “My options”, then activate the “Visual Voicemail” and “Manage the activation of Visual Voicemail from my phone” settings. Finally, restart your device.

If you subscribe to the 2 euro package – or 0 euro if you subscribe to a Freebox – be careful! Using MVV may consume mobile data. Also, make sure to deactivate the use of mobile data and to be on Wi-Fi so as not to run out of data.
