Long-awaited Star Trek sequel shows new signs of life

Long awaited Star Trek sequel shows new signs of life

Star Trek 4 news couldn’t be more confusing. In February, the new sci-fi film and director were announced. It should not be a restart, but a return of the crew around Chris “Captain Kirk” Pine. The problem: The stars were reportedly clueless about Star Trek 4, so what’s really going on with the latest installment in the space franchise? One who needs to know is the CEO of studio Paramount.

Paramount boss gives update on Star Trek 4 with Chris Pine and crew

Paramount CEO Brian Robbins was recently interviewed by Variety and came up with the State of Star Trek 4 to speak. He was asked how far along the studio is with the sci-fi sequel:

We are in depths [Gesprächen] with JJ Abrams and it feels like we’re slowly getting to the starting blocks and we’re excited to see where that takes us creatively.

JJ Abrams, director of the Star Trek reboot and producer of the three Pine films, is back on board. But why is Chris Pine’s Star Trek generation returning instead of introducing a new crew? The answer sounds sober, but clear:

I’m a market research nerd and the data tells me that the audience wants this cast in the film.

Star Trek is one of the most successful franchises for Paramount and thus an important mainstay for the Paramount+ streaming service. Unsurprisingly, following the successful reboot of the series universe with Star Trek: Discovery, the studio is looking to produce more films. A reboot seems impossible at the moment.

Sci-Fi Return: When is Star Trek 4 in cinemas?

Star Trek 4 is scheduled for December 22, 2023 come to US cinemas. Hopefully by then we will also know when Paramount+ and thus Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will come to Germany. The streaming offer should also become the home of the Star Trek empire in this country.
