Long-awaited fantasy sequel has reportedly been cancelled

Last week the plans for the series and film future of DC were announced. Superman and Batman are getting their own movies, and even the dark Swamp Thing is set to return to cinemas. But one name was missing from the announcement from new studio bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran: Constantine.

In September, Warner Bros. gave the green light to the sequel Constantine 2, starring Keanu Reeves. However, that was before the personnel changes at DC Studios, to whose comic universe the beloved cynic belongs. A new report is now fueling concerns that Constantine 2 is on the way Victim of DC reorganization has become.

Keanu Reeves meets the same fate as Henry Cavill

The background is tweets by the relevant leaker KC Walsh, who has made a name for himself in the past with correct information about upcoming superhero films. In a tweet on Jan. 31, Walsh wrote that Constantine 2 is not filmed (via The Direct). Walsh later added on the circumstances under which the sequel was announced last September:

That was a film that got the green light out of desperationbecause they were unsure about the direction of DC and needed something for the post-2023 era.

So far, there has been no confirmation of this information from relevant industry sites such as Variety, for example. However, the reasoning makes sense.

The announcement of Constantine 2 starring Keanu Reeves was similar to what happened with Superman star Henry Cavill. In both cases, the Return of a fan favorite announced to fuel anticipation for DC’s future in cinemas. However, Warner Bros. Discovery exchanged personal details at DC Studios a little later. James Gunn and Peter Safran were tasked with reshaping the comics universe, and Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel definitely had no place in that. The same could be true of Keanu Reeves.
