LoL: The new season starts today

League of Legends will finally start its new season on January 8th, 2025 and begins with a new structure. You can find out what awaits you in the first season of 2025 at MeinMMO.

Editor’s note: The article originally said that the new patch would be released today, January 8th, 2025. As an exception, the patch will appear on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, not on Wednesday. We have corrected that.

League of Legends starts in 2025 with a new concept. If you look at the current LoL patch notes, you will immediately notice that the naming has changed. Instead of 15.1, the new patch is called 25.S1.1, i.e. Season 1 of 2025.

There will be three seasons per year, each of which will have a specific theme. The new season’s motto is Welcome to Noxus. There are new skins, a new look for the Summoner’s Rift map and some changes and new mechanics in the game.

New mode and new monster

What does the new season offer? With Patch 25.S.1 some changes come into play that change the dynamics of LoL somewhat.

  • The design of the Summoner’s Rift map has changed to match the Noxus region
  • With Atakhan there is a new jungle monster with new buffs that spawns directly on the river at the top or bot lane
  • Nexus Towers can now respawn after 3 minutes if you do not complete the game by then
  • Deeds of Strength are a new upgrade for your shoes, but your team will only receive this if you are the first team to achieve 2 of 3 achievements (First Blood, First Tower, First 3 Epic Monsters)
  • The value of champion bounties should be easier to understand
  • Towers deal more damage, but the damage reduction is reduced
  • A few changes have been made to minion stats, especially later in the game (the first canon minion arrives in wave 4)
  • Swift Play replaces Quick Play mode
  • Swift Play is supposed to be significantly faster than normal mode, for example you get the dragon soul after just 3 dragons and there is generally more gold
  • As with every season, there is a ranked reset again

    • When does the new season start? Patches are usually released on Tuesdays. The first patch of 2025 will only appear on Thursday, January 9th, 2025.

    E-sports are also becoming more dynamic. With the new season, the Fearless Draft also comes into play. Once a champion has been chosen, it may not be played again in best-of-5 or best-of-3.
