On Saturday the MSI tournament in League of Legends ended. In the finals, the two Chinese teams Bilibili Gaming and JD Gaming faced each other and JDG also won this clash without much opposition, proving how strong China is in LoL.
How did JD Gaming play?
Korea is considered to be the best LoL region in the world. 7 times a Korean team won the Worlds. Above all T1, formerly SKT1, with a legend status. The team holds the record for 3 Worlds wins.
The match between China and Korea broke the MSI viewership record and was watched by 2.3 million people.
Accordingly, JDG did not lose a single round, but only 3 of 15 matches played in this tournament. The team even won two rounds with a clean sheet. In general, the teams from Europe and USA performed poorly and could not even play against each other.
What did JD Gaming win? The total prize pool of the MSI tournament was €231,000 (US$250,000) and was split between the teams based on their placement.
JDG won 20% of the pool for first place and nearly €46,000. The Chinese colleague BLG received almost €35,000 (15%) and T1, in third place, received almost €28,000 (12%). The rest was then split between 4th and 13th in descending order.
What’s next? All teams must next qualify for Worlds in their regions. The League of Legends World Championship will take place from November 10, 2023 to November 19, 2023.
After the performance of JDG and BLG, China is considered one of the favorites this year. In 2016, SKT1 became the first team to win MSI and Worlds in the same season. We’ll see in November whether JDG can do it this year.
The winners of the Worlds traditionally get a skin series in LoL a year later. A last year’s winner manages to smuggle his favorite Honkai Impact waifu into LoL using the new DRX skins.
