LoL pro reveals ingenious trick he used to trick an opponent in a tournament

Pro Mao “Aki” An revealed on a stream how he tricked an opponent using emotes in League of Legends. This was even used in a playoff match in the LPL, China’s highest league.

What was that trick? Aki is the jungler of Team OMG, who narrowly missed out on MSI in the playoffs by finishing fourth. Nevertheless, the team’s performance was impressive, leaving well-known names such as Invictus Gaming or Royale Never Give Up behind.

The professional used a simple but ingenious trick in the match against Top Esports. The playoff match was about getting into the top 4 – so a win was extremely important. Aki wanted to gank the top plane and get a kill for his team. However, he was unsure whether his opponent Wayward could see him in advance in the bush or not.

So he just used an emote. Wayward replied with an emote as well. So he was aware of the attack. After that, Aki just uses his emote before each gank, giving himself an advantage.

Gigabrain strategy when the opponent allows it

Why did this work? Wayward is known as a player who likes to have fun in his matches. That’s why he uses a lot of emotes himself. Aki took advantage of this:

  • When Wayward uses an emote, Aki knew he didn’t need to gank. This saves time that he would otherwise have waited in the bush for the right moment.
  • If Wayward didn’t react, he most likely couldn’t see Aki. So the jungler could wait for the ideal moment to attack.
  • Many LoL fans think it’s great that this trick worked in a pro match in China of all places. They therefore refer to it as the “gigabrain” strategy.

Can I use the trick myself? Basically yes. However, there is of course no guarantee that the opponent will actually use an emote. But if he does, unless you get a guaranteed kill, you can quickly cancel the gank.

You use your emote by calling up the pop-up wheel in the match. This is on the “T” key by default. However, you can change the key assignment at any time.
