Some games in League of Legends cause a lot of frustration because other players give up too early – even though they could still win.
In League of Legends (LoL) you have the opportunity to give up a game from minute 15 – which doesn’t sound so bad in itself. But players are becoming increasingly frustrated because their teammates give up too quickly in ranked games, even though their team isn’t doing that badly and could have turned the game around.
It’s more common than you’d like for players to spam FF 15 in the chat very early in the game – short for Let’s give up at minute 15.
This isn’t a new thing in League of Legends, but the discussion has been fueled again by a clip on Reddit with players calling for the Surrender option to be removed.
LoL players complain: giving up too early is becoming the norm
What does the clip show? The video shows the professional LoL player Jankos, who dominated the European scene with G2 as a jungle main for many years and currently plays for Team Heretics.
In this game he plays Nidalee and even though the team was doing well and he just secured his 15th kill, his team decided to forfeit the game.

Main character syndrome is said to be the problem
What does the community say? One Reddit user commented on the clip, arguing that FF culture has gotten out of control and is a self-fulfilling prophecy and that the Surrender option should be abolished. Many players were already spamming in minute 3 that the game was lost and that they had to give up as early as possible.
Some argue that the game could still have been a win as Jankos and his team led in almost all categories. Nevertheless, they decided to give up early, which many players find incomprehensible.
Alternative_Guest268 suggests that the vote to quit was purely impulsive. He pointed out that the next three votes were cast immediately after the first. To this he says:
[…] I’m also pretty sure that at least one or two of the people who decided to click yes regretted it right after.
People are simply bad at controlling their emotions without self-reflection and consideration of factors outside of the top right score.

On the other hand, there are also teams that, even when they are not leading and the situation looks dire, do not give up and consistently vote no on the Surrender vote.
