LOL is now censoring one of his oldest champions

League of Legends has been the drunken ruffle gragas, the “troublemaker.” He is a mighty, rambling builder and has skills such as “free beer” and “drunk anger”. It was not a problem for 15 years. But in 2025 it no longer works in LOL.

That is Riot’s announcement: On April 18, 2025, RiotMeddler spoke up on Twitter and said: Some properties of Gragas have been adapted and the “drunk” from the name of skills were removed in order to meet age requirements in different regions.

If you want, you are welcome to pour yourself on it. The players shouldn’t worry either, Gragas still appreciate a beer. He is now only discredited when it comes to drinking.

Gragas has been in League of Legends since February 2010: the whole character is about beer. Gragas is master brewer, runs around with a huge barrel that he throws and from which he always treats himself to a sip to strike more and regenerate some health.

This is LOL – once really honestly explained

How is that discussed? The tweet has now reached 1.1 million views in a few days and was commented on over 300 times.

Especially in the English -speaking countries you are annoyed by the restriction. Riot Games wants to pacify religions that do not endure if someone drinks something. That takes the “creative fun from the game” and shows how internationalization can go wrong. If necessary, you have to stop using such a market if you have to change the international version.

Apparently, the players, especially countries such as Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, have suspected of limiting the glorification of alcohol through gragas.

A bad comment says: “I guess Tencent finds public executions as an ability to play okay. Probably because it was not a problem for the Communist Party until recently.”

The Chinese group Tencent is the mother company of Riot Games. Tencent are said to have excellent relationships with the Chinese government.

“It’s like then when you removed the cigar from Graves! You will never recover financially.”

That is probably an ironic comment.

Is there someone who likes the change? A contribution thanks Riot Games. A user says that the son of a former alcoholic whose father died because he drank too much is happy about the change. He always felt uncomfortable to play gragas. He even wishes that Riot would go on and also change the animations and voicelines.

Games like League of Legends are played worldwide and with some topics it becomes clear that is not a big issue for us, in other regions of the world very differently: LOL proudly celebrates gays and lesbians – except in Turkey, you must not: Problems about LGBTQIA+
