The Mythic system was introduced in League of Legends 3 years ago. It should allow a new kind of item builds while limiting powerful items. That didn’t work satisfactorily, and now Riot has announced that it will completely kick the system in the future.
What was announced? Riot has introduced some changes for the next preseason. In addition to changing the terrain and objectives like the dragon, Riot also announced that it would completely remove mythic items from the game. The idea behind the system didn’t work out, as Riot announced on Twitter.
What are Mythic Items?
But apparently the system doesn’t seem to work as planned, and Riot itself wasn’t happy with it either:

The Mythic system doesn’t work for every champ
Why is the Mythic system being removed? Riot says on Twitter that while many champs would work with the items, the others couldn’t really use any of them, but the variation is limited by the strength of the items.
They want to delete the Mythic system, but various Mythic items should remain and be adapted so that they can be played in different builds. They tried something similar with some items in the last mid-season update.
In general, the removal should ensure that builds are no longer built around the Mythic items, but instead create more variation. Riot wants to reveal what exactly is changing about the items in the near future. You can find the statement here:
The fact that the Mythic items were too dominant became apparent during the course of the release. In January 2021, the meta was dominated by support items that were just being used everywhere. But items like gore drinkers were also too dominant at times. The change means that not every champ has to force themselves to buy a Mythic item.
When is the change coming in LoL? The preseason for Season 14 is scheduled to appear with Patch 14.1 on January 9, 2024. The item changes should also come here. The current Ranked Split will be extended and will last until January 3, 2024.
Next year’s preseason will show whether the build variations really get better or whether legendary items are simply the absolute top dogs. A Riot developer doubts whether the players will always understand the patch notes:
