LoL: 16-year-old outclasses a seasoned professional

Syun “Calix” Hyun-bin is a young LoL player who is getting a lot of attention right now. In a video clip, he shows his class and outclasses the AD carry of T1, Superstar Faker’s team. The 16-year-old is now No. 1 in Korea’s SoloQ.

What do you see in the clip? The professional Gumayusi, 21 years old and at T1 since December 2018, is in a ranked match and runs to his tower in the botlane with the champion Aphelios. This is currently being attacked by Calix on Ezreal.

Also, Gumayusi’s support is running into lane, so it’s a 1v2 situation that the pro feels pretty safe in.

But Calix solves the situation brilliantly. He hides in the bush, summons his ultimate there and hits the pro player with it. In return, he elegantly dodges many skill shots. Mechanically, this is an Ezreal at the absolute highest level.

In the end, Gumayusi dies in a direct fight and his supporter also loses his life after support for Calix comes running out of the jungle.

Here you can watch the clip, which is a few weeks old and has only just been posted on Reddit:

Calix already belongs to a team, dominates in several positions

How good is the player? Although Calix is still very young, he has been playing League of Legends at a very high level for several years. In 2021 – then at the age of 13 – he was signed by Nongshim Academy.

This team has already achieved several titles in the training league and the second division:

  • In May 2022, they took 1st place in the playoffs in the Academy Series.
  • In November 2022, it was enough for a 3-4 place in the Academy Series playoffs.
  • This year they finished 6th in League Two in the spring playoffs.
  • In August they even reached second place in the summer league in the LCK CL.
  • There he was initially as a midlaner and only as a substitute. On March 17 of that year, he made his debut in the LCK CL, the Korean second division, and then switched his position from mid to botlane in the summer. In the meantime, however, he is again listed as a substitute for the middle and played a total of 12 matches this season.

Calix convinces with its mechanics as well as its flexibility. He is currently ranked in the SoloQ in Korea with 1,703 LP. In 2nd place he is currently exactly 70 LP away, and in 3rd place even 120 (via OP.gg).

He plays most of his matches in the midlane (70%), but he was also very active in the toplane (11.5%) and as a jungler (7.8%). However, in the clip shown, he was the AD carry and still managed to defeat one of the most experienced pros at that position in Korea.

What do you think of the young player? Will we see him in a higher league in the future?

The well-known professional Faker also started his career around this age. At the age of 17 he won the world championship for the first time. You can read more about it here: The life of Faker – That’s why he’s a living legend.
