In its statement about the volcanic eruption, IMO said: “A volcanic eruption started north of Grindavik in Reykjanes. “The explosion is close to Sundhnukagigar, kilometers northeast of Grindavik, and can be seen from nearby webcams.”

Authorities stated that they recorded a series of strong earthquakes, indicating that the possibility of volcanic eruption increased, and they safely evacuated the citizens living on the peninsula.
