The man was arrested this summer after shooting a man, who is an acquaintance of his, in the stomach with a revolver after a dispute arose after a boat ride.
NWT has previously reported on the case, and states that the suspect is a local politician in Värmland. On Friday, charges were brought against the man, who is suspected of attempted murder.
In the lawsuit, the prosecutor writes that the plaintiff suffered permanent bodily harm and that the act caused extraordinary suffering.
Drink alcohol
The men had drunk some alcohol during the boat ride, and in questioning the suspect states that the mood turned bad towards the end. However, nothing untoward should have happened on the boat.
Afterwards, he allegedly received a phone call from the other man, who allegedly threatened him and then came to his home. He then states that he is going straight to the gun safe because he is afraid that his life is in danger. According to him, the plaintiff must have tried to break in, whereupon he shoots at him.
Denies crime
The suspect denies any wrongdoing. He admits the course of events, but believes that he acted in an emergency. Prosecutor Katarina Ström Lindberg does not agree with that.
– I will go into more detail about how I stand during the trial. But I mean that he was not entitled to shoot and was guilty of an act labeled as attempted murder, she says to SVT.
The man who was subjected to the suspected attempted murder is also charged, on suspicion of unlawful threats. According to the lawsuit, he allegedly threatened the politician over the phone to kill him. He also denies any wrongdoing.
