A local cannabis producer will be moving ahead with a partnership involving an Australian-based company.

Medisun, which is located just outside of Grande Pointe, will team up with Sydney-based Cannim Group, a global cannabis operation.

According to a municipal media release Tuesday, the partnership hopes to bring more jobs to Chatham-Kent and expand Medisun’s existing international reach into the market.

“In this vast growing and challenging industry, Medisun continues to champion high-quality standard cannabis at large-scale production focusing solely on wholesale partnerships,” said Art Caron, owner and founder of Medisun. “During which time we have had the honor to work with some amazing companies, but one in particular that stood out to us.

“Focusing on the safety, science and scale production of cannabis, Cannim Group is a family-founded corporation with the same values in why we started Medisun. It’s a perfect match.”

Shay Donati, Medisun marketing manager, said the partnership will open “so many doors and upcoming career opportunities” for Chatham-Kent residents.

“We couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to grow, give back to the community and put us on the map from a global standpoint,” Donati said.

Mayor Darrin Canniff touted Chatham-Kent’s agricultural products, adding he’s pleased to see the business prosper.

“It’s another sign of the great things coming from our community and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is happy to promote and support this ongoing growth,” he said.
