LO is without a leader: “Extremely serious situation”

– It is a very serious situation, says Papper’s chairman Pontus Georgsson to the newspaper Arbetet.

He was already a disgrace when he was presented by the selection committee as recently as last week. And on Saturday, it was supposed that Pim van Dorpel would be elected as the new LO chairman by the congress that starts today in Stockholm.

But on Thursday evening the news came. He is no longer available for personal reasons.

And now in the morning, before the congress begins, a first meeting is being held between the LO unions to resolve the crisis that has arisen, TT learns.

The schedule may crack

Now the election committee, under the leadership of Tomas With, IF Metall’s vice-chairman, is getting it hot on the ears. And it’s clear that the schedule is at risk of cracking, but Congress is on until Monday, so there’s a little extra thinking time.

– It is clear that now it will be quite a rush. Something like this shouldn’t really be rushed, said Pontus Georgsson to the LO-owned newspaper Arbetet on Thursday evening.

Just that the unknown Pim van Dorpel, vice chairman of the small hotel and restaurant association, was nominated from the beginning suggests that the selection committee did not have such an easy job of shaking up a new chairman. And it is not just a new leader who is to be elected – the entire old LO leadership, consisting of four people, is stepping down at the same time.

Can affect the whole

When a brand new four-leaf clover is to be chosen, a dropout can affect the entire composition. But so far, none of the other three have wanted to comment.

Others proposed to the LO leadership are IF Metall’s contract secretary Veli-Pekka Säikkälä, Louise Olsson, vice-chairman Elektrikerna and Jessica Leiding, union secretary Kommunal.
