LKAB flags at half mast after the fatal accident

– This is heavy for the whole of Kiruna, it is a small community so everyone is affected by the death, says LKAB’s communicator Per Juntti to TV4 Nyheterna.

The man died in connection with the fact that he was performing maintenance work from a work position, and in addition to the police investigation, LKAB is investigating the accident itself and offering support to employees.

– It is still unclear how this could happen. For some reason, he has fallen during the work, says Per Juntti.

– Fortunately, serious injuries rarely occur. We have a great focus on safety, but accidents sometimes happen. In November we had another death in Kiruna, he says.

So far this year, 15 people have died after workplace accidents, according to statistics from the Swedish Work Environment Agency.
