Liverpool fans boo David James after the action against the boy

A little boy would have his big dream come true.
He put the ball on the penalty spot in front of the Liverpool fans at Anfield.
Then the goalkeeping legend David James stepped in and completely crushed the dream.

The entire football world is talking about the scenes that unfolded at Anfield on Sunday. As part of the half-time entertainment in the match between Liverpool and Chelsea, Liverpool supporters were allowed to step onto the grass and shoot penalties.

The boy’s punishment

A little boy of 11 took the ball in his hands and put it on the penalty spot in front of all the Liverpool fans in the stands behind. A desirable boyhood dream would finally be fulfilled.

Then the goalkeeper legend stepped up David James into the action. He made seven seasons for Liverpool and was back at Anfield to put himself between the posts again.

James refuses

Many had expected James not to do his best and let the guy score to the great cheers of the crowd. But the former English national team goalkeeper refused, who instead saved the penalty from the boy, see the video below.

The 11-year-old got another chance and this time James should have taken the cue, but he went right again and saved the ball for the second time in a row. The Liverpool crowd went into a frenzy and booed their former goalkeeper, causing him to turn towards the fans with his arms outstretched, see for yourself below.

The match itself was won by Liverpool 2-1 and thus continues the nice dream start under the new coach Arne Castle. At least the little boy can be happy about that.
