01/09/24 – 23:07 – Summary of the day

Another crazy day for these Paralympic Games, a Sunday well-stocked with 9 medals (3 of each metal). For once, we were spoiled in terms of gold with three units. That of Emiline Pierre in para-swimming (100m freestyle S10) was the most unexpected, the Frenchwoman confounded all predictions by beating the Canadian favorite Rivard while beating her French record. Tanguy de la Forest dreamed of this trinket for a long time. At these sixth Paralympic Games, he finally tasted the consecration. His victory in the final against the Brazilian Galgani in 10m air rifle was masterfully crafted. Like a 46-year-old shooter, Marie Patouillet climbed to the highest Paralympic step for her last race of her career at 36 years old. In the C5 pursuit final (para-cycling) she beat her friend Heïdi Gaugain who was the clear favorite.

In addition to Gaugain, two other silver medals of different flavors completed the harvest of the Blues this Sunday. The first, that of Gloria Agblemagnon in the F20 weight, was a real surprise. The tricolor beat her record by more than 40 centimeters to finish second behind the untouchable Fortune. The second was of a very bitter taste, its holder Timothée Adolphe had come the gold and was the big favorite of the 400m T11. Tired by the series of laps, he was overtaken in the final straight by the Venezuelan Santos. The protest of the federation staff did not change the outcome.

Para-rowing gave France its first medals in the discipline. Nathalie Benoit showed her self-sacrifice and endurance to steal third place in the PR1 single sculls, while the French mixed coxed four gave their all to hold on to bronze by six hundredths of a second. The last medal of the day went to Manon Genest, who got a bronze in the T54 long jump and celebrated her feat with her 21-month-old daughter.

The success of the Blues in the Blind Football against China and the authoritative qualifications in the para-badminton final of Mazur and Noakes came to embellish this historic Sunday in the Paralympic Games.

01/09/24 – 22:59 – A historic day for Great Britain

If France won 3 gold medals this Sunday, Great Britain collected twelve. Three disciplines were in the spotlight (para-cycling, para-swimming and para-athletics). We will note a very nice success in swimming for the British in 4 x 100 freestyle S14 mixed (Darbeyn Maskill, Ellard, Newman-Baronius)

01/09/24 – 22:56 – The last meters of Emeline Pierre

Relive the last meters of Emeline Pierre’s race in the S10 100m freestyle final. A breathtaking comeback on the Canadian Rivard

01/09/24 – 22:46 – France 5th in the medal table

With 9 medals this Sunday (three of each metal), France moved up to fifth in the medal rankings with 26 medals in total (6 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze)

01/09/24 – 22:41 – Apathetic Spanish women

The Spanish basketball players are largely dominated by Canada in women’s basketball 32-55, while we are playing in the third quarter.

01/09/24 – 22:40 – Para-triathlon events confirmed for tomorrow

Good news, all 11 para-triathlon events have been confirmed for tomorrow morning.

01/09/24 – 22:36 – Les Bleues swept away by Japan

In women’s goalball, the Blues were swept aside by Japan. A 6-0 defeat for the French, who unfortunately have suffered a series of defeats in a tournament where they came to learn.

01/09/24 – 22:25 – Genest very happy!

“I’m happy, it shows that you can return to a high level even if you’re a mother” confessed Manon Genest, euphoric after her bronze medal in the long jump.

01/09/24 – 22:19 – Caillaud qualifies for the quarterfinals

In para-table tennis, Morgan Caillaud qualifies for the quarter-finals thanks to an authoritative victory against the Egyptian Hanaa Hammad 3 sets to 0 (11-4, 12-10, 11-9)

01/09/24 – 22:12 – Genest third in the long jump

Manon Genest won bronze in the long jump with a jump of 4.59m. She completed the podium behind Wen (China) and Roberts (USA)

01/09/24 – 22:10 – Chinese pair Olympic champions

Qu and Mai dominated the men’s doubles final in para-badminton against the Korean pair Yu Jeong (21-10, 21-12)

01/09/24 – 22:03 – The Blues win the Blind Football

The French team did not miss its entry into the Paralympic tournament, it won against China 1-0 in a very solid defensive match.

01/09/24 – 21:50 – Qu and Mai widen the gap

China’s Qu and Mai are well ahead in the second set in this men’s doubles final in para badminton. 13-8 in their favour against the Koreans

The Blues still hold their small goal lead against China, there are 4 minutes left to play and the French are dominated.

01/09/24 – 21:33 – Roderick Townsed flies over the height

Roderick Townsed Roberts literally and figuratively dominated the high jump competition with a jump of 2.12m. Frenchman Dipoko-Ewane finished eighth with 1.92m.

01/09/24 – 21:30 – The French staff files a complaint in favor of Adolphe

The French staff made a protest. They believe that there was a form of guide pull from Andreson Santos in the final straight, the Venezuelan finished first ahead of Timothée Adolphe.

01/09/24 – 21:25 – France opens the score against China

Les Bleus have taken a narrow one-goal lead against China in the Blind Football match. There are 8 minutes left to play in the second half.

01/09/24 – 21:19 – The three towers played tricks on us

Adoplhe did not hide his disappointment after his final “We lost a bit of synchronization in the last few meters, they finished better than us. We would have liked gold but the three laps in two days played tricks on us. Everyone knows that I have the best finish but I’m not necessarily the most resilient. Congratulations to them who once again had the race of their lives.”

01/09/24 – 21:11 – Adolphe second!

A little disappointment for Thimothée Adolphe who was too tight in the last 50 meters. He finished second in 50’75” behind the Venezuelan Santos Gonzalez 50’58”. Silver medal for the Frenchman

01/09/24 – 21:07 – Timothée Adolphe in place for the final

It’s time for Timothée Adolphe to take on his T11 400m final. He will be accompanied by Jeffrey Lami, his guide for the past 8 years.

The goal for these 2024 Paralympic Games is quite high for the French delegation, which hopes to break all records as for the Olympic Games. “The goal is mainly gold medals, because that’s what counts most in the table of nations,” recalls Marie-Amélie Le Fur.[…] I was asked if this was not a discounted ambition compared to the Olympic top 5. But we had so neglected performance, we have come a long way. We were 14th in Tokyo; aiming for the top 8 means doubling the number of gold medals, so a real ambition” said Marie-Amélie Le Fur, president of the French Paralympic Committee. As a reminder, in 2021, the French Paralympic delegation won 54 medals, including eleven Olympic titles.
