Thank you all for following us for this new day of the 2024 Olympic Games. Three medals have been added to the French counter! Good evening to all and see you tomorrow for the rest of the Olympic adventures.
07/08/24 – 23:30 – This Thursday’s program!
On the program for this Thursday in these 2024 Olympics a new discipline! Indeed, the day will start early, at 7:30 a.m. with the marathon swimming if the water quality of the Seine allows it. At 9 a.m., at the golf course, the French Céline Boutier will try to keep her first place. In kitesurfing, Lauriane Nolot will try to do the same thing in the race for the medals (1:13 p.m.). Just before, in the men’s event, Axel Mazzella will defend his chances an hour before. The team table tennis will also continue with the Lebrun brothers and Simon Gauzy who will advance against the Chinese, ultra favorites, at 10 a.m.
Also in the morning, French taekwondo athlete Souleyman Alaphilippe will try to imitate Cyrian Ravet or even do better in the -68kg category. He will fight his round of 16 match at 9:21. In canoe kayak sprint, the French duo Loïc Léonard and Adrien Bart will be on the water at 11:20 for a semi-final. Team sports will continue with the French handball team at 16:30 with a semi-final against Sweden while the French basketball players will also play for a place in the final at 17:30 against Germany.
At 5:18 p.m., the best French chance in track cycling will be in the quarterfinals of the keirin. If all goes well for Mathilde Gros, she will be in the final at 7:11 p.m. Finally, at 10:34 p.m., Bilal Bennama, in boxing, will try to win the gold medal.
07/08/24 – 23:15 – A mixed day
After a quiet day on Tuesday, Wednesday brought some great medallists, even if everything settled down at the end of the day. The big hiccup of the midday was for the French handball players. Leading with five seconds to go and with possession, the French finally lost in overtime and said goodbye to the Olympic title and Nikola Karabatic in the worst possible way. In women’s basketball, the Bleues did better by dominating Germany easily. They will face Belgium in the semi-finals. Just before, the Lebrun brothers and Gauzy took the French table tennis team to the semi-finals as well.
The first medal of the day had to wait until 8:30 pm with the bronze for the French Taekwondo fighter Cyrian Ravet who took advantage of his opponent’s withdrawal to win his first Olympic medal. This started the evening in the best possible way. The volleyball players secured a medal by surpassing Italy and reaching the final. And to end this great evening, the French boxers brought home two new medals, although certainly the ones they didn’t want. Sofiane Oumiha and Djamili Aboudou lost their fight and left with a silver and a bronze medal.
07/08/24 – 23:04 – Oumiha’s disappointment
“I wanted to finish on a high note, it didn’t go the way I wanted. That’s life. I can’t be happy with a silver medal because that’s not what I came for. I don’t think there will be another possibility. I’m getting older and it’s starting to show,” said Sofiane Oumiha, particularly disappointed.
07/08/24 – 23:01 – OUMIHA BEATEN
TERRIBLE… Sofiane Oumiha is defeated in the final by split decision. The Frenchman is dejected. Erislandy Alvarez is the Olympic boxing champion in the -63.5kg category.
07/08/24 – 22:59 – The fight is over!
The gold medal will be awarded in a few moments after this boxing final. The judges will give their verdict. It’s very uncertain.
