LIVE JO 2024 Lebrun aims for bronze the Alcaraz

This Sunday, August 4, marks the last day of swimming in these 2024 Olympic Games and potential new French medals.

08:20 – Surfing on borrowed time

The organizers of these 2024 Olympic Games and more specifically the surfing events in Tahiti must have headaches. If this night was to consecrate the Olympic medalists, the semi-finals and finals were postponed again tonight. The conditions do not allow surfing on the Teahupo’o wave but this Monday, August 5 announces a more favorable swell. Time is starting to run out because the deadline planned for the end of the event was initially scheduled for this Monday. A real race against time is on.

08:10 – A quick look at today’s enticing program

If the day of these Olympic Games could still provide medals for the French delegation, it is also thanks to the two boxers Sofiane Oumiha and Bilal Bennama. They will try to change their bronze medal into silver or gold by qualifying for their final. In -75kg, the French Davina Michel could ensure a medal in -75kg.

In cycling, the three French women involved could want to imitate the men who signed a fine second and third place in the road race while Baptiste Addis and Thomas Chirault, in archery, would like to go down in history as much as Lisa Barbelin and her bronze medal in the women’s event. As for Félix Lebrun, in table tennis, the little French prodigy will play for a bronze medal against the man who conquered his older brother, Hugo Calderano.

The day will end with the last evening of swimming, with the highlight being Léon Marchand’s last of the lasts in these 2024 Olympic Games.

03/08/24 – 23:45 – Potential medals on Sunday

Great hopes for medals tomorrow for the French. Felix Lebrun will play for the bronze medal against the Brazilian Calderano. The 4x100m medley relay team, led by Marchand, has the assets to win the Gold. Pauline Basquin will also be in the individual dressage final in equestrian.

For his part, Ait Said, a finalist in rings, can hope to bring home the first French medal in gymnastics since Bouhail in 2008. While Sofiane Oumiha will aim for a place in the -63 kg final (boxing)

03/08/24 – 23:36 – Summary of the day

After a smooth run and a stunning final against Japan (leading by two points), the French mixed judo team did not disappoint by winning the 12th French gold medal in these Olympic Games. A trinket that Riner, Agbegnenou, Gaba and their ilk went to get with their minds and sweat after seven matches against the Japanese. This is Riner’s second gold medal in Paris and his fifth in five editions (3 individually and 2 by teams). For French Judo, that makes 10 medals in total (beaten Tokyo record). What a performance!

The same cannot be said of Hervé Renard’s Bleues, who had an inglorious defeat against Brazil (0-1) in the quarter-finals. Despite an outrageous domination against a team well within their reach, the French, who were once again too messy in moments of truth (a missed penalty), did not fulfil their contract.

Wendie Renard’s teammates will therefore not even have a bronze medal like that of Lisa Barbelin (third in individual archery) or a silver medal like that of Camille Jedrzejewski (25-meter shooting). The two shooters further filled the medal haul thanks to exceptional performances in their respective finals.

Madouas and Laporte, sacred strategists, were also flamboyant in the final of the road race this afternoon. They arrived on the Champs Elysées in second and third position and thrilled Thomas Voeckler, coach of the Blues and undoubtedly the main artificer of this double, like never before.

In terms of disappointments, unfortunately the list is rather full. Maxime Grousset did not exist in the 100m butterfly final, like Anastasia Kirpichnikova, seventh in the 800 meters and tired from the series of races. The mixed 4x100m relay remained at the foot of the podium but can hope for better days with a nice quartet led by Léon Marchand. The French women’s sabre team lost in the match for 3rd place against Japan, while they were hoping for the Gold medal. Wassila Elkhadiri stopped at the gates of the semi-finals in boxing (-50kg) despite a balanced fight against Villegas. In Athletics, Makenson Gletty finished twelfth in the decathlon, like Guillaume in the triple jump, while pole vaulter Thibault Collet did not manage to get past the qualifying stage.

03/08/24 – 23:22 – Renard greets his team

Despite the big disappointment, Hervé Renard wanted to underline the good performance of his players this evening against Brazil. “The girls played the match they needed to. When things don’t work out, they don’t work out. There’s a little something missing, like last year in the World Cup. Given the way the match went, you could say that’s how football is. They were enterprising, they had chances, they missed a penalty. But they’ll get there one day. When you see tonight’s match, we weren’t far off, but we’re not in the semi-finals. We can talk for hours, but you have to swallow your disappointment and keep going. It’s a shame to say that, but it’s frustrating that it ended like this. In football you have to be efficient and we weren’t.”

03/08/24 – 23:13 – Brazil stops bad run

Unable to beat France in 11 matches (5 draws, 6 defeats), Brazil finally won against Les Bleues thanks to a goal against the run of play from striker Portilho.

03/08/24 – 23:10 – It’s over for the Blues!

The road stops again in the quarter-finals for the Blues, beaten by Brazil (0-1). The scenarios are inevitably repeated for the French who cannot get past this stage of the competition. As a reminder, Hervé Renard’s protégés missed a penalty in the first half by Karchaoui

03/08/24 – 23:01 – Too many approximations among the Blues

With two minutes left in added time, the Blues are not applying themselves to the final moves. Few balls to exploit in the opponent’s area

03/08/24 – 22:59 – Men’s Doubles Final

The men’s doubles tennis final tomorrow will pit the Australian pair Ebden/Peers against the American pair Fritz/Paul.

03/08/24 – 22:56 – Lorena impeccable

Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena, who stopped a penalty from Karchaoui in the first half, is on all the trajectories. Very reassuring in goal, she is on all the trajectories like her save on a shot from Le Sommer

03/08/24 – 22:55 – Serbia beats South Sudan

With Bogdan Bogdanovc at thirty points, Serbia won against South Sudan (96-85) and secured its ticket to the quarter-finals.

03/08/24 – 22:52 – 16 minutes of added time

The referee of the match adds 16 minutes of stoppage time. The Blues have plenty of time to equalize

03/08/24 – 22:47 – Post for Portilho

Bad clearance from goalkeeper Constance Picaud, Portilho inherits a good ball in the area but shoots against the post.
