Emmanuel Macron expected in Mayotte

Emmanuel Macron is due to arrive this Thursday morning in Mayotte, five days after the deadly and devastating passage of Cyclone Chido, to see the extent of the disaster and provide support to the Mahorais, who are despite everything trying to resume their lives.

The Head of State is expected around 10:30 a.m. local time (8:30 a.m. in Paris), after a second night under curfew to ensure security and avoid looting. He must spend part of the day in the French archipelago in the Indian Ocean, before leaving for Djibouti, where he must share the traditional Christmas meal on Friday, as initially planned, with French soldiers deployed abroad.

The Environmentalists will go well to Matignon

The Environmentalists will go to the meeting of political forces in Matignon, but call on the presidential camp not to pursue “identically” a policy “disavowed by voters”, at the risk of new censorship, they warn this Thursday morning .

“The identical continuation of a policy already disavowed by voters at the polls, but also by deputies through censorship, can only lead to the same effects. It is the responsibility of the presidential camp of the ‘avoid’, says Marine Tondelier’s party in a press release. And to recall that Emmanuel Macron’s choice to appoint François Bayrou “clearly does not constitute a political alternation”. “In this context, the Ecologists can only remain in opposition in Parliament.”

The political forces expected at Matignon

The Prime Minister invites at 2:00 p.m. to Matignon the presidents of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet and of the Senate Gérard Larcher, as well as “the presidents of parties and groups who have had responsibility for the affairs of the country at a period or at a other of the Fifth Republic”, he wrote in a letter. A formulation which excludes the National Rally and its ally, Eric Ciotti’s UDR, as well as La France insoumise, founded in 2016. François Bayrou “despises the National Rally and its millions of voters”, in reaction castigated the vice -party president Sébastien Chenu.

Appointed on Friday, at the end of a tense morning in Emmanuel Macron’s office, François Bayrou has since received political leaders and parliamentarians on rue de Varenne for official or more informal meetings. In his letter to political parties, the Prime Minister mentions the disaster in Mayotte and the crisis in New Caledonia, believing that “these two situations added together” place political leaders “faced with unprecedented responsibilities”. Enough to bring about a form of union? Without a majority in the Assembly, the centrist is currently facing strong demands from the Republicans (LR) on the right, and growing attempts at censorship on the left.
