09.45 Lopik opted for independence. But will that really happen?

Reporter Robert Jan Booij also went to Lopik to gauge the mood the day after the election. Hart voor Lopik’s victory implies that voters there are not interested in a merger with another municipality.

But on the street people in Lopik are skeptical that the results translate into concrete results. “In the end they get their way. It has to.”

09.28 am Round on the street in Nieuwegein: ‘What is the difference between the parties?’

Nieuwegein was the municipality with the lowest turnout in the province. A walk on the street doesn’t really make it clear why.

Nieuwegeiners, who spoke to reporter Robert Jan Booij for Utrecht is Wakker on Radio M, find the differences between the parties somewhat small: ”GroenLinks has won big here. But what does it actually say? It is very difficult to determine what one party wants and what the other wants.”

08:58 Party leaders on the ‘day after’: Lopik chooses for himself, VVD licks its wounds and Woerden has to polder

One after the other party leader from the province joined Utrecht Is Wakker on Radio M this morning. One had something to celebrate last night until the small hours, for the other the election night ended in disappointment.

For example, party leader Yvonne Slob of Hart for Lopik interprets her seat gain as a clear message: the voter in Lopik wants to remain independent and not merge with another municipality. In Woerden, the formation of a college is quite a puzzle, but CDA leader Job van Meijeren does not find that a problem: “poldering was invented in Woerden.”
