On Monday, the Russian president was on the bridge that connects the occupied Crimean peninsula with Russia.

The nearly 20-kilometer-long boast was inaugurated by Putin four years ago, and was said to be next to impossible to destroy.

But on October 8, it was damaged by a powerful explosion. Parts of the bridge collapsed.

On Monday, the president drove over the bridge in a Mercedes. He then got out of the car and was briefed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Chusnullin about the work to repair the bridge.

Russia has blamed Ukraine for the attack on the bridge, and responded with several retaliatory attacks against Ukrainian infrastructure.

At the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, Russian warplanes flew about 300 sorties daily over Ukraine. Today, there are about ten flights a day. This is stated by the British Ministry of Defense in its latest update on the war, in a post on Twitter.

According to the Ministry of Defense, Russia has lost about 60 warplanes since the war started. The threat from Ukraine’s air defenses and worsening weather are cited as reasons for the reduced number of flights.

In the winter of 2014, Russia invaded the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula and took it over with the help of heavily armed elite soldiers.

The contradictions spread to eastern Ukraine – where the war between pro-Russians and the Ukrainian army has claimed close to 10,000 lives.

In February 2022, Russia again invaded Ukraine.
