Since the 4th season, Babylon Berlin has been facing a new challenge. So far, Sky Deutschland has been jointly responsible for the popular series as producer. At the end of June 2023 it was announced that the channel would no longer produce fictional series from now on. Even if Babylon Berlin was not deposed as a result, it is Sky is no longer involved in the future of the series.
Since the end of season 4, things have recently become quiet around Babylon Berlin. But now a new statement from leading actress Liv Lisa Fries has emerged that gives a lot of hope for season 5.
Babylon Berlin star talks about planned filming for new episodes
As Deadline previously reported, the actress spoke about her filming schedule for the fifth season of Babylon Berlin in an interview with the industry magazine. According to Fries, they should new episodes will be filmed this year become:
At the end of this year we will shoot the final season of Babylon Berlin. It’s still in the financial process, but they’re writing. Money is a question mark, but my schedule is to shoot it later this year.
Deadline has also contacted American production company Beta Film, who could not confirm a specific schedule for Babylon Berlin Season 5. The new episodes should be but already in development and Tom Tykwer & Co. are apparently working on the scripts.
When will Babylon Berlin season 5 be released?
Babylon Berlin will certainly continue and it looks like the new episodes could be filmed from the end of 2024. A start date sometime in 2025 is likely after that, but not yet guaranteed.
