The Finnish national football team for boys under the age of 21 will face Azerbaijan on Tuesday 7 June. The match at Töölö Football Stadium starts at 16.00 and can be watched live from Areena.
On Tuesday, football fans will be pampered with a contract. The men’s A national team will continue the matches of the League of Nations at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium when it faces Montenegro for the first time in history from 7 p.m.
There has been a debate about the need for peoples ‘league matches, but there is no need to twist the importance of the Little Poopers’ match at the Töölö football stadium next hour three times before the match.
– This is the 24th time the tournament has been played, and Finland has entered the competition once. Our worst competitor in the block, Norway, has reached once. Admission to the competition is neither clear nor easy, head coach Juha Malinen points out.
In the past, the trick has only been successful Markku Kanervan played under Tim Sparvin skippered by little pimps in 2009.
U21 European Championship qualifier block A
The European Championship dream survived when Pikkuhuuskajat rose twice from the losing position to an important 3–2 victory in Friday’s European Championship qualifier against Austria. Julius Tauriainen struck a 30 meter free kick home 89 minutes into the match Lukas Sulzbacherin on. Just five minutes earlier Naatan Skytta had brought Finland to levels 2–2.
– The first 25 minutes of the match was probably the worst game for us in the entire qualifiers. We got along and showed what type we have in the locker room. Austria has tough names and Transfermarkt can be seen as an expensive player, but we have a united team playing in the Aston Villa organization Viljami Sinisalo praised.
Captain Sinisalo also grabbed important fights again with Pikkuhuutjä’s goal. He has grabbed them through the qualifiers: the victory from Austria was already the second qualifier, as Finland was also better in Tampere in October. In Croatia, Pikkuhuusjat applied for a 3–2 victory in March.
– We made this a bit difficult at the beginning of the qualifiers when we didn’t get points at home against Croatia. However, we took two big scalps into the tube, Croatia and Austria, which of course gave me self-confidence. I guess I would say in Croatia after the game that what we did for the big, good futisma after the first episode is the result of having a really good chess in the pile.
Estonia – Finland 0–3
Finland – Croatia 0–2
Azerbaijan – Finland 1–1
Finland – Austria 3–1
Norway – Finland 3–1
Finland – Estonia 1–0
Romania – Finland 2–1
Croatia-Finland 2-3
Austria-Finland 2–3
One word is repeated in Sinisalo’s speech: unity. He emphasizes the good team spirit of the Little Owners.
– Everyone is friends. We do this together and everyone knows their role, whether they played a quarter, 90 minutes or zero minutes. We don’t have any so-called egos on the team. It’s a pretty Finnish thing and on our side, especially against big countries, Sinisalo says.
Head coach Malinen also describes the team’s European Championship qualifiers as a development story.
– We assembled the team when Korona’s time was at its worst. For the first events, we didn’t get any players playing abroad at all. When we had our first competitive matches against Estonia and Croatia, Anssi Suhonen, who was meant to be the conductor of the field, got around 14 new players. That’s where the story came from. Now Suhonen is out of the freezer, and it still works, Maline times.
“Underrated Azerbaijan”
The little punches faced Azerbaijan in October in Sumgayit, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Finland had to play in the last half hour, and Azerbaijan’s winning goal came four minutes before the end of the regular season.
According to head coach Malinen, the opponent must not be underestimated even on Tuesday.
– This is a good, undervalued team. There is a big football culture, the players are skilled and passionate. The coach makes them play as a team. But like I said, there are passionate players out there and when the passion is unchecked for a long time, there should be gaps that we want to take advantage of, Malinen says.
Sinisalo also describes the opponent as passionate and aggressive.
– They took a 5-0 victory over Estonia in the guests, which we could not do again. It is not a useless chess. We lacked a little restraint in the previous encounter. We took 5-6 touches instead of a couple of touches and the game went really slow when they weren’t terribly squeezing. But they’ve changed their style of play a bit since then, so let’s see how they come on Tuesday.
Captain Sinisalo hopes that the audience will arrive before the Huuhkajai match to follow the Puppies’ extracts as well.
– A great football day is coming, the weather should be in place. The sun is shining and twenty degrees. Is there anything better than going to the U21 match first and then going to the Owls game? Hopefully as many people as possible will be there when the schools are over!
According to the goalkeeper, the team promises to provide entertaining, fast-paced football.
– We have scored six goals in the last two games, so I am confident that more goals will be seen than in the previous encounter (1-1). Tuesday’s match is a match from which we have to take three points, less is not enough.
Little Poodles is currently in third place in the block, two points away from second place qualifying for at least the European Championship qualifier. In the final race of the block on Friday, Finland will face Norway, which is the second in the block.
Sinisalo believes that Finland will be seen in the final tournament in Romania and Georgia in the summer of 2023.
– There’s no reason not to believe. We talked on Friday before the game and after that if we get into a situation where we play big things in front of a home crowd in Finland, it’s just like Markku Kanerva’s U21 team. In Turku, they advanced from further qualifiers.
