Lithuanians have voted on Sunday in the second round of the parliamentary elections. The election was expected to lead to the replacement of the ruling conservatives by a center-left coalition.

The threshold questions for the elections are almost entirely about domestic politics, because in foreign policy all parties agree on e.g. continuing support for Ukraine and keeping defense spending at least at the current level.

Two weeks ago, the Social Democratic Party won the first round of the elections. In second place is the current Prime Minister’s party, the Christian-democratic Kotimaa liitto.

141 MPs are elected to the Lithuanian Parliament, or Seimas, for four years. 70 representatives are elected by proportional election from one national constituency and 71 representatives are elected by direct election from constituencies of one representative.

Parties must exceed the five percent vote threshold in order to get representatives to the Seimas.
