A project providing presents of books for children and youth in the Sarnia area at Christmas had another successful year.
Literacy Lambton’s 2022 Give-a-Book campaign was able to deliver 3,787 new books through 34 local front-line agencies, said executive director Tracy Pound.
That’s up from 2021 – a record year when 3,104 books went out through 26 partner agencies, she said.
The 2020 campaign saw 2,253 books distributed through 20 local agencies to children in the community.
“This year was mind-blowing,” Pound said. “We just continue to be shocked and surprised by the generosity of Sarnia-Lambton.”
She said project supporters this year include Arlanxeo, Rotary Club of Sarnia Bluewaterland, IODE Errol Egremont Chapter, the Optimist Club of Sarnia Lakeshore, the Discovery Book Club and many individual donors.
Literacy Lambton is a registered charity helping adults improve their reading, writing, math and basic computer skills, while also offering free family literacy outreach programs.
Formerly known as the Organization for Literacy in Lambton, it has been operating locally since 1989.
