Listowel man charged with assaulting a police officer after disturbance

A 21-year-old Listowel man is charged with assaulting a police officer, among a long list of other offences, after police say he allegedly became violent while carrying a weapon at a Listowel business last week.

The Perth County OPP said officers had responded to a report of a man being aggressive, making threats and becoming violent at a business on Main Street West shortly after 5 pm on June 30. When officers arrived, police say the man was allegedly wielding an edged weapon.

When officers attempted to arrest him, police alleviated he resisted. No one was injured during this incident.

As a result, the man was charged with assaulting a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, assault with intent to resist arrest, two counts of assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of mischief.

The man was held in police custody pending the results of a bail hearing.
