In Genshin Impact, many characters are unlocked through prayer, which can be purchased using real money or in-game currency. However, you can earn some characters for free. Here you will find an overview of which characters are involved, which element they master and how you get them.
A majority of the characters in Genshin Impact are obtained through a gacha system, using prayer and hoping to draw one of your favorites. However, the game also provides you with several free characters. With these, you can put together a solid first troop, especially at the beginning of your journey in the game world “Teyvat”, and do well with the initial missions.
You can unlock a total of 7 characters for free without having to use prayers on them. You can see what these are in our list. A figure is also presented, which is not completely free to get, but which you can easily get your hands on – without having to hope for it in numerous prayers.
1st Traveler: Aether or Lumine
How do you get the Traveler? Right at the beginning of the game you will automatically receive one of the two characters in Genshin Impact. You can choose whether you prefer to play a female character (Lumine) or a male (Aether).
In the game world you will find the statues of the various deities (archons), which are each connected to an element. The main character can align with her to have attacks of the appropriate element.
If you wish to change the elemental alignment, simply align yourself with another Archon’s statue. At the moment you have 4 of the 7 different elements to choose from (status: 02.12.2022)
2. Ambergris
How do you get Amber? You get the Archer early in the game as part of Archon Quests. To do this, play the order “A Knight Swept by the Wind” in “Prologue Act 1: The Stranger Who Caught the Wind”.
3. Kaeya
How do you get Kaeya? You also get Kaeya in the Archon Quest series. Play the quest “A Course in Knighthood” in the “Prologue Act 1: The Stranger Who Caught the Wind”.
4. Lisa
How do you get Lisa? Lisa is the third character you unlock during Prologue Act 1: The Stranger Who Caught the Wind. To do this, complete the quest “The spark between the pages”.
5.Barbara
How do you get Barbara? You must first reach Adventure Rank 18 and complete the quest “For a Dark Shadow” in the Prologue, Act 3, “A Song of the Dragon and Freedom.” After that, you unlocked the Devotional Chant event. Play this one and get Barbara as a reward.
6. Xiangling
How to get Xiangling? You need adventure level 20 to unlock the Twisting Abyss. Here you play your way through different rooms with increasing difficulty. If you clear level 3 in room 3, you will get Xiangling as a reward.
7. College
How do you get Collei? As well as You can get Xiangling Collei by completing a specific room in the Twisting Abyss. You have to create level 4 and room 3 for this.
Not exactly free, but guaranteed: Noelle
How do you get Noelle? Strictly speaking, Noelle is not a “free” character, but is unlocked by prayer. However, you will receive it as part of the “Beginner’s Prayer” banner and are guaranteed to get the character within the first 10 draws.
It is therefore advisable to put your first prayers in the beginner’s banner. Mainly because you are guaranteed to get another character with at least 4 stars within the total of 20 draws that are available to you.
Besides Noelle, there are 4 other characters that are often underestimated in Genshin Impact.

How do you draw characters and how much does it cost?
How to get characters in Genshin Impact? You get most of the characters in the game through prayer. You have two different types available:
How do you use the Fates? You use the Predetermined Destiny for standard prayers, where you can obtain figures that are permanently available.
With the Interwoven Destiny you bet on one of the two available banners with the so-called “character action prayers”, where you have a higher probability of drawing certain characters. These special banners are there for a certain period of time, with changing figures.

A small hint: Always keep an eye out for in-game actions. Here, too, you can sometimes unlock characters for free.
For example, in a version 3.2 event called “Smart Mushroom Contest,” you could get “Dori” without prayers. However, such special events usually only last for a limited time.
