Liseberg wants to rebuild Oceana again. The amusement park announces it in one press release.
The decision was made during an extraordinary board meeting on Friday.
– We have felt fantastic support from everyone involved. The love the citizens of Gothenburg and all of Sweden have shown the project and Liseberg in this difficult time has been priceless, says Kurt Eliasson, chairman of Liseberg’s board.
At the meeting on Friday, the board decided to start the process of rebuilding Oceana, after the fire that started on Monday. The board received a report on the situation and was also informed then that a person had been found dead.
– It is with great sadness that the board received the news that the fire most likely took Patrik Gillholm’s life. A loss of life puts everything into perspective, and our thoughts go out to Patrik’s family and loved ones, says Kurt Eliasson, chairman of Liseberg’s board in the press release.
Starting to plan for the reconstruction
The entire board must have agreed on the ambition to rebuild the bathhouse.
– The fire was devastating, but it should not stop the development of the destination Liseberg. Liseberg is an important part of Gothenburg’s identity and Liseberg’s Anniversary Project is an important building block in the recovery of the western Swedish hospitality industry, he says.
Kurt Eliasson further says that the amusement park is now slowly moving forward after the last week’s crisis work. Liseberg’s management will be tasked with starting up the planning for how a reconstruction can take place.
Paying tribute to the emergency services
Kurt Eliasson describes the fire as devastating but wants to praise the rescue service and all those who have been involved in the work since Monday.
– We have felt fantastic support from everyone involved. The love the citizens of Gothenburg and all of Sweden have shown the project and Liseberg in this difficult moment has been priceless, he says.
