Lisbeth was going to catch the mini dachshund – broke her wrist in the ice slip: “Looks like an S”

Lisbeth Sjöström was only going to quickly catch her son’s mini dachshund that ran away and didn’t think in a hurry to put on spikes, something she is otherwise very careful about.

– It was very slippery at the entrance and there I was before I could blink, she says.

The sudden pain and a quick glance at the left wrist. In the emergency room, the doctor said it looked like a s.

High pressure on the orthopedist

The number of injured due to slip accidents, such as broken bones and operations, has doubled since the end of November at the orthopedist in Västerås. And precisely wrist fractures top that list.

– We are in a very tough period, and haven’t actually had time to catch our breath yet. So far, we have managed to parry the pressure with extra resources and managed to provide patient-safe care, says Matthias Fassbender, director of operations at the orthopedic clinic in Västerås.

The pressure is also felt on the number of emergency care places at the orthopaedist, where there is currently 30 percent overcrowding.

– We have extra beds and relocate fully treated patients to other departments, says Matthias Fassbender.

Long period of cold and slippery accidents

He does not dare to predict how things will look in the future.

– There has been an unusually long period of cold compared to previous years. I hope it thaws soon.
