Five lions made their way out of their enclosure from Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday morning. The discovery was made at 6.30.
“The zoo has strict security procedures for such incidents and measures were taken immediately,” the zoo writes in a press release.
The guests who stayed overnight in the area had to seek shelter in an area with toilets, and the police were called to the scene.
The lions in question, one adult individual and four cubs, were in a section outside the main exhibit, but separated by a high fence from the rest of the zoo. Four of the five lions went back voluntarily, while one cub had to be sedated and moved.
“The cub is awake now and doing well,” writes the zoo.
The guests were let out of the restroom after about an hour and a half, according to ABC News.
The zoo describes it as “a significant event” to investigate how the lions were able to escape. They are in a relatively newly built part of the park.
