The Swedish Ice Hockey Federation has decided that the Luleå fans may not have flags and banners in their stands for a month.
The big star Linus Omark thinks it’s a scandal.
– Just screw it up and bring extra flags, he tells NSD.
It started so well for Luleå HF, who slammed three straight victories during the season opener of the SHL. Then it started to go much slower. Three consecutive defeats were again followed by three wins, but since then it has been a bit of back and forth for the club, who are sixth in the table.
Received a penalty
It was in the fifth match of the season, when Luleå was pitted against Skellefteå, that someone in the home stands lit a flasher. It had dire consequences for the home fans. The Swedish Ice Hockey Federation has punished Luleå with a flag and banner ban on the H stand. The ban applies for one month.

One who definitely does not agree with the association on this issue is Luleå’s star player Linus Omark37. He tells the local newspaper NSD, Norrländska Socialdemokraten, that he barely felt that a bengal was lit in the arena. He was even less disturbed by the smoke, which the chairman of the competition committee believed was a major work environment problem.
– I didn’t even notice that it was set on fire, says Omark.
Luleå Hockey has appealed the decision and now the players hope that the relevant board will overturn the decision. Both Linus Omark and Mathias Brome think that the team’s supporters should continue to be seen and heard a lot before a final decision is made on the matter.

– Just screw it up and bring extra flags. That’s part of it, and it’s better that they (Swedish Ice Hockey Association) focus on catching the few who are on fire, says Omark.
– We appreciate the supporters’ support like hell and I hope they continue to bring their flags and drive on. What are they going to do, shut down all our supporters?, says Bromé to NSD.
There are of course different opinions about this. The important thing to remember is that going to hockey should be safe and fun for everyone. No one’s safety should ever be compromised.
