Facts: Sweden’s squad for the cross-country WC in Planica
Ladies: Ebba Andersson, Maja Dahlqvist, Johanna Hagström, Moa Ilar, Frida Karlsson, Emma Ribom, Jonna Sundling, Linn Svahn.
Men: Edvin Anger, Calle Halfvarsson, William Poromaa, Eric Rosjö, Jens Burman, Johan Häggström, Marcus Grate.
Two years ago, Linn Svahn was the world’s fastest female racer and won all the sprint races she competed in – until she fell during a World Cup competition in Ulricehamn in February 2021.
What at first appeared to be a fairly mild shoulder injury would later prove to be considerably more problematic. In the second half of 2021, she underwent surgery twice, and it wasn’t until January of this year that she was able to make a comeback in the World Cup.
But after great efforts in recent weeks, not least the fourth place in the sprint in Les Rousses this weekend, as expected she got a place in the Swedish WC squad on Tuesday.
— Happily, she is back at a level that is very good. We expect that she will be even better at the WC, says national team manager Anders Byström.
Eric Rosjö, Jens Burman, Johan Häggström and Marcus Grate also had their WC tickets confirmed by Byström. It is notable that Oskar Svensson, who had a hard winter, is being poked.
The WC in Slovenian Planica will be held from 22 February to 5 March.
