Rehab is progressing for Linn Gestblom (formerly Persson).
But it is still unclear when the biathlete can make a competitive comeback.
– It is of course very difficult to talk about results at the moment, she says.
The Swedish national biathlon team is training at high altitude in Font Romeu, France, ahead of the upcoming winter season. Linn Gestblom is involved, but carries out alternative training.
– My rehab is going well. I am in a phase where it is very much about, as it has been for a while, building up strength and endurance. I have enough mobility. But it is important to become strong and persistent so that I have the strength to do what I have to do, says the 30-year-old.
Gestblom has had problems with injuries in recent years. After the 2022–2023 season, she had both shoulder and groin surgery. Last season she finished prematurely, after the WC in Nove Mesto, to have shoulder surgery. Since then, she has had to devote herself to rehab.
– It is a bit difficult to say when I will compete again. But of course I hope and believe that I will be able to compete this winter, she says.

“Painless & stable”
She admits that she is getting used to it after several years of injury problems where she has not been able to train properly.
– It is clear that I am looking forward to the day when I can train completely unhindered, she says and adds:
– If such a day comes. It’s always something and the older you get too… But being able to train without having to adapt too much is something I’m looking forward to.
What are your hopes for the season?
– That once I drive, it should work well. I want it to be what I did the operation for. That it should be painless and stable and that the shoulder should work as a shoulder should work. Then, of course, it is very difficult to talk about results at the moment.

During the summer, she also got married and changed her surname from Persson to Gestblom.
– It was the best day of my life, she says.
How to introduce yourself with your new surname?
– It goes like that… Both for me and others, I think. It is a learning period. But it will probably go well. I try to speak correctly and write correctly in any case, laughs Gestblom.
