Linköping was on its way to its fifth straight loss in the SHL – then coach Klas Östman raged against his own players.
– We are not awake. It’s some kind of meltdown, he says in TV4 Play.
In the end, the team managed to turn around and win against Modo with 4-3.
Before the bottom meeting with Modo, Linköping had only five victories (one in overtime) in the opening 14 rounds. In addition, the Östgöta came from four straight losses. It didn’t look any better after the first period away in Örnsköldsvik either.
“Annoyed and pissed off”
At 0-2, LHC’s coach left Klas Östman straight out in TV4 Play’s broadcast and completely sawed off his own team’s effort. He showed no mercy towards his own players.

– I am both annoyed and pissed off. Somewhere we have to look forward, but we’re putting ourselves on the hook and we can’t afford that in the situation we’re in. Amazed how it can be like that, he says live and continues:
– I don’t know if we are nervous or taken by the seriousness of the moment. We can lose in many ways, but this is embarrassing.
Got results with him
He was particularly upset by Modo’s 1-0 goal which Alexander True did when Linköping had the powerplay. It should not be allowed to happen in such a situation when you have a numerical advantage.
– We go slowly to the booth and do not participate in them sending people up. We are not awake. It’s some kind of meltdown. It’s damn good when we get the chance to take command in the power play, he says.

In the second period Linköping went from 0-2 to 3-3 and in the end they also scored a fourth goal in overtime. In other words, they brought home the extra point and broke the losing streak. Klas Östman’s total scolding seemed to have helped the players wake up in the dressing room.
Linköping is now in tenth place in the SHL table, while Modo is still last in fourteenth place. Newcomer Brynäs leads the way.
So wonderful and fun with the SHL hockey, which is really starting to get going now with exciting matches and hot emotions that are shown both on and off the ice.
