The mother of two Linda Bentzing talks about the struggle for her child who has an NPF diagnosis.
It all started with the son not doing well at school. Bengtzing and her husband Peter tried to give their nine-year-old son the right conditions, but then felt that they were not being heard about the difficulties in the classroom.
Linda Bengtzing: Good luck
– The school is not there for the children who do not fit into the box. They refused to help us and then we finally felt that if we investigate him, we might get better help. But it took several years and we thought he should get help from where he was. I think the first meeting was in June one year and then he was diagnosed a year later. A year has been wasted then, Linda added Lotta Bromé in the radio program at Mix Megapol.
For Linda Bengtzing, the investigation unluckily coincided with the pandemic, when the artist industry was severely affected with canceled gigs and events. For her, it became an opportunity to be there for him, every day.
Linda Bengtzing: “It doesn’t always make me very happy”
After the pandemic and everyday life went back to normal, her son has received two diagnoses, one of which is ADHD. But even with diagnoses on paper, the mess with the school continues, Linda Bengtzing tells Lotta Bromé in Mix Megapol.
– We have asked to get a separate resource for him, which you are entitled to when you are “LSS:ed” (The Act on support and service to certain disabled people, ed. note). For him to catch up, achieve results. Because he is learning and wants to go to school. That window can be so short for such children. He wants to go to school, take advantage of it, she says and continues:
– People usually say that ADHD is a superpower, that doesn’t always make me very happy because it’s not like that in his case. As a nine-year-old it’s not, maybe as an adult… But right now it’s a hell of a mess.
