Lina Soualem and her grandmother Aïcha

Lina Soualem and her grandmother Aicha

Who speaks? Who dares to say, not to say or say halfway? This voice that we have just heard in G Major belongs to the grandmother of our guest, Lina Soualem who had promised herself not to join the big tree of the cinema (like her parents), and who here is overtaken by branches of documentary.

A documentary born in his head after his grandparents decided to separate. Their Algeria which received the Docs-in-Progress Prize on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival and as part of the Marché du film, asks intimate questions and joins the great collective narrative around this vague and so vague face, called immigration. How to make the Algerian silences speak? How to wake up 1945, 1954, 1962? And how to be satisfied with the modesty of the answers? At the same time, the image has nothing wise in the Soualem family. Maybe she even plays leapfrog and, from generation to generation, she becomes more and more impertinent.
