The Limelight Hour on December 17, 2024 in Pokémon GO gives you Snailmag and Arktip. We’ll summarize how you can use the event here.
What is Limelight Hour? The spotlight hour always takes place on Tuesday evenings. For 60 minutes, a Pokémon is put in the eponymous spotlight – or, in exceptional cases like this week, several Pokémon.
You will then find these Pokémon significantly increased everywhere in the game for an hour. This week you can look forward to Arktip and Schneckmag.
This is Arktip: Arktip is an Ice-type Pokémon from the 6th generation of the game. It evolves into Arktilas. You can also use your candies for Hisui Arktilas if you’ve already caught one. This monster appears in raids from time to time. Arktilas is also quite useful in the Master League, but there are better options in the other PvP leagues and as a raid attacker.
This is Schneckmag: Snail Mag comes from Generation 2 and is a fire type. It evolves into Magcargo. However, both of them are negligible as fighters in Pokémon GO; they are not among the best attackers in Pokémon GO.
But: There is also a bonus on top of that.
Spotlight hour on December 17, 2024: Start, bonuses, is it worth it?
Start of the spotlight hour: As always, it starts at 6:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. you will meet the event spawns of the holiday event, which also starts on December 17th.
Bonus: You can get double the number of Catch Candies during the hour. This also applies to all Raid or Dynamax bosses that you defeat during this time. The holiday event also adds double catch XP and half the hatching time for eggs.
Are there Shiny Arktip and Schneckmag? Yes, you can also catch both as Shiny. However, the shiny rate is not increased. However, due to the sheer number of spawns, you might get lucky.
Is the hour worth it? Both Pokémon aren’t super useful when it comes to fighting, but the bonuses make the lesson quite interesting. Plus, you can always be lucky when it comes to shiny things. And at least as a Master League fighter, Arktilas is worth it. If you want to let off some steam, you should take the bonus candies with you from the lesson when you catch them. And if you’re still missing the monsters, it’s a good opportunity to fill up the Pokédex anyway.
If you’re more interested in raid attackers, neither Schneckmag, nor Arktip or their developments will really do you any good. There are much more helpful Pokémon that can do a lot more damage to your opponent. But speaking of raids: There has apparently been a change there that will help you defensively. You can read everything about the changes to dodging in raids here.
