Like Twitter and Telegram Snapchat now offers a paid subscription

Like Twitter and Telegram, Snapchat now offers a paid subscription with a premium plan, which brings some unconvincing new features. Do not panic: the free version of the social network is still usable.

That’s it : this June 29, Snapchat has launched a new formula called Snapchat+. A paid subscription that offers exclusive new features and early access to users ready to put their hands on the wallet. The platform that boasts 332 million users worldwide, for “live in the moment, discover the world and have fun together“, follows the direction taken by its competitors. In fact, last year Twitter launched the Blue paid plan, which notably allows you to delete a tweet, and Telegram recently revealed the Telegram Premium offer, which removes ads, increases storage capacities and offers cosmetic bonuses. It is a way to cope with a drop in income. When will the same be done for Facebook, Instagram and TikTok?

Snapchat+: new anecdotal functions and always advertising

Fortunately, Snapchat will continue to work for free as before. The premium version simply allows access to new functions. This formula notably grants the user a new badge on his profile indicating that he is a premium member. It also gives the possibility to pin one of his contacts as “best friend” – why only one? – in order to highlight their conversation. The user can also find out where their contacts have been for the past 24 hours provided that they have activated their geolocation – a somewhat intrusive function – and find out who has watched their stories – a function which is notably present for free on Facebook and Instagram. It also allows you to further personalize your profile, change the application icon and have priority assistance in the event of a problem. In short, fairly anecdotal functions that will have a hard time seducing ordinary users. Especially since this subscription does not make the advertisements disappear, which will constitute the heart of Snapchat’s economic model in the long term. We wonder who will agree to pay each month with so few benefits…

Snap Inc., the company that owns the social network, offers the Snapchat+ subscription at a price of 4.59 euros per month. To reduce the cost, it is possible to opt for a 6 month plan for 24.99 euros or a 12 month plan for 45.99 euros. The formula is currently available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Other countries will be added to this list later.
