Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson offered a wonderful double this weekend.
But now Frida reveals the unexpected words from Ebba right after the finish line.
– It was a real knife here, Karlsson admits to Dagbladet and points to the heart.
Ahead of the 2023 World Ski Championships in Planica, the big talk was about which of the Swedes Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson who would become WC queen this year. Both have been very convincing during the season and the first round was decided on Saturday.
Ebba beat Frida
Then Ebba won before just Frida when the women’s skiathlon was decided and Sweden took a fantastic double ahead of Norway in bronze place.

It was only about Andersson and Karlsson in the ladies’ skiathlon, but Ebba was so much stronger than Frida on this particular day. After the finish, both could be united in a warm hug and then begin the celebration of new WC gold and WC silver for the Swedish national skiing team.

“Knife in the Heart”
A short time later, the new specially designed gold caps were also distributed to the Swedes and then the most unexpected thing happened between the teammates. The Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet were the only ones to pick up on the fact that when Frida Karlsson received her gold cap, Ebba told her: “It’s not your time to shine” (translation: “It’s not your turn to shine”).

Karlsson admits that it still hurt, even though she quickly realized that it was a joke from Ebba.
– Oh, I thought. It was a real knife here, says Frida to the Norwegian newspaper and points to the heart.
– I told Ebba that I wear it for her sake, explains Karlsson afterwards to SportExpressen.
– It was funny to say.

Ebba explains
Ebba Andersson also admits that it was all about a joke and that her intention was not at all to make Frida sad or uncomfortable.
– Frida said: “But Ebba, I’m wearing this to pay tribute to you today. That we do this together”. We manage to joke with each other, it’s with a twinkle in the eye, says Ebba to the evening newspaper.
A few hours later, when the WC heroes were being photographed together with the medals and the Swedish flag, Frida Karlsson had changed faces. Instead of the gold cap, she had a blue variant on her head.
– I had to take off the gold cap because it wasn’t my “time to shine”, she says jokingly to the photographers on site.
