Ligue 1: OM, Rennes and PSG are doing well, the ranking of the 1st day

Marseille took the lead in Ligue 1 after the first day of the French championship just ahead of PSG.

L’OM hit hard on Saturday, August 17, during the first day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. The day after PSG’s big win in Le Havre (4-1), Marseille crushed Brest away (5-1), with a penalty save by their new goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, a double from their new striker Mason Greenwood and a penalty goal from their other offensive recruit Elye Wahi. The final score brings both credit to new coach Roberto De Zerbi and a lot of concern for Brest a few weeks before their Champions League debut.

OM, provisionally top of Ligue 1, is followed by PSG. For its first match without Mbappé, the French champion won against Le Havre, 4-1. Monaco also had a successful debut by beating the promoted Saint-Etienne team 1-0 on a goal from Minamino. The rest of the Ligue 1 match was marked by the long interruption of the Reims-Lille match following the terrible shock suffered on the pitch by the Dogue Angel Gomes. Evacuated after long minutes of worry, the Lille midfielder was conscious and the latest news was rather reassuring. The match resumed after 34 minutes of interruption. Reduced to 10, Reims lost 1-0.

This Sunday, Auxerre, for its return to Ligue 1, won against Nice 2-1 while the last match of the first day saw Rennes win largely on its home turf against Lyon.
