Ligue 1: Monaco leader, PSG and OM frustrated… The results and the ranking

Ligue 1 Monaco leader PSG and OM frustrated… The results

The second day of Ligue 1 did not really smile on the big armadas, like PSG and OM held in check respectively in Toulouse (1-1) and Metz (2-2), and Lyon struck down at home by Montpellier (1-4). Monaco, winner of Strasbourg (3-0), is the leader.

[Mis à jour le 21 août à 10h12] After two days of Ligue 1, the big teams have not yet all moved into second gear. Double champion of France in title, Paris Saint-Germain has still not won a match. After remaining silent against Lorient (0-0) at the opening of the championship on August 12, the Parisians were once again hooked, this time on the side of Toulouse (1-1). Despite the great return of Kyllian Mbappe, reinstated in the professional group at the start of last week, Luis Enrique’s men did not last the distance at the Stadium. The Parisian superstar, who came into play after 50 minutes of play, had unlocked things well on a penalty he had obtained himself (62nd) but PSG were joined in the last moments, on another penalty unnecessarily conceded by Achraf Hakimi and transformed by the Moroccan from Téfécé, Zakaria Aboukhlal (87th).

Only eleventh in the standings this Monday morning, the club from the capital can at least rejoice that its great rival, Olympique de Marseille, has also shared the points. It was Friday evening in Metz, promoted this summer, where the Olympians, despite playing eleven against ten for more than half an hour, failed to impose their superiority (2-2) . Winners of Reims at the start of the season, Valentin Rougier’s partners still have four points and sit in sixth place in the standings. Four points is…four more than Olympique Lyonnais. The Rhone club, already feverish in Strasbourg during its first official outing of the season, literally exploded at home in front of Montpellier (1-4). And in addition to being humiliated, the Lyonnais lost their captain Alexandre Lacazette, scorer but expelled in the 80th minute. Laurent Blanc’s team, already weakened, is penultimate in the elite and raises some questions.

Monaco have already scored 7 goals

If a team expected to play at the top of the table is present in August, it is indeed Monaco. The Monegasques confirmed their spectacular victory obtained in Clermont (2-4) by dominating Strasbourg on Sunday at the Louis-II stadium (3-0). The men of the Principality, now led by Austrian coach Adi Hütter, have taken control of Ligue 1 at the expense of the Rennais Stadium, who however hooked Lens on Sunday evening at Bollaert (1-1), and impressed with their attacking potential. AS Monaco is the only team with Brest, winner on the lawn of the promoted Le Havre (1-2), to have six points after two games. In the other matches of the weekend, Lille and Reims won their first victory, respectively against Nantes (2-0) and Clermont (2-0), while Lorient and Nice did not manage to decide between them (1-1 ).

The next lifting will begin next Friday at 9 p.m. with the trip of the Monegasque leader to the lawn of the FC Nantes, already defeated twice. OM will host Stade Brestois on Saturday afternoon (5 p.m.) while the big poster will pit PSG and Lens against each other – the two best teams of the last exercise – on Saturday evening at the Parc des Princes (9 p.m.).

The calendar for the new Ligue 1 season was unveiled on Thursday June 29 with 34 dates due to the increase from 20 to 18 clubs. Lhe 1st day took place on the weekend of August 12 and 13, 2023 and the 34th and last will take place on Saturday May 18, 2024 with a multiplex.
