“Lights on or lights off?”

During a joint Twitch stream, the well-known Valorant professional TenZ and the Twitch streamer Kyedae were surprised by their chat with the unusual question “Lights on or lights off?” TenZ’s reaction made for a humorous moment, as he responded in true gamer style without even realizing what the question was about.

Who is TenZ? Tyson Ngo (22), known as TenZ, is a Vietnamese-Canadian professional Valorant player currently signed to Sentinels. His esports career began in October 2019 as a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player for Cloud9. In April 2020 he moved to Valorant, where he continued to play for Cloud9.

Who is Kyedae? Kyedae Shymko (21) often plays Riot Games’ tactical shooter Valorant on Twitch. On March 3, 2023, Kyedae surprised her fans with a Twitter message in which she revealed that she was suffering from leukemia.

A little later, she confessed during a live stream that she had kept this serious diagnosis from her fiancé TenZ for a long time. At the time, the streamer was taking part in a major e-sports tournament. Kyedae wanted to ensure that he could fully concentrate on his game and his career.

“Lights on or lights off?”

What did the chat ask? During one of their streams together, TenZ and Kyedae sat side by side. Kyedae focused entirely on playing Valorant.

Amidst this relaxed atmosphere, an unexpected question suddenly appeared in the chat: “Lights on or lights off?” It was a strange question that caught both of their attention immediately.

TenZ, always immersed in his role as a gamer, reacted quickly and replied curtly with “Lights on!”

But instead of simply accepting the question, Kyedae first tried to remove herself from the affair. She claimed she didn’t even read the question, hoping to avoid the odd topic of conversation.

But TenZ didn’t give up and stubbornly repeated his answer, each time with the same certainty: “Lights on!”

“Was that really the question the chat asked?”

What did TenZ mean by his answer? Then, to make things even more interesting, TenZ began to explain why he had this clear preference for “lights on.” He revealed that he had problems with his eyes during his school days. Kyedae, still irritated, couldn’t help but think about what exactly this damage was supposed to come from and questioned his statement.

TenZ took the time to clarify his answer. He explained that he was referring to the monitor light, which can cause eye strain when the room is dark and only the light from the screen is shining. Kyedae, who was beginning to see the humor in this seemingly harmless question, could no longer suppress a smile and listened intently as TenZ continued to explain his theory.

Finally, as the two engaged in a sort of humorous question-and-answer game, Kyedae dared to ask the ultimate question: “Was that really the question the chat was asking?”

TenZ, still a bit confused and concentrating on the explanations, asked in amazement what exactly the question was.

Kyedae, now unable to contain herself, burst out laughing and confessed that the chat had probably meant something completely different. TenZ, finally realizing the misunderstanding, laughed out loud and, embarrassed, simply said, “Ohhhhhh.”

Kyedae covered her face and shook her head at the strange turn of the conversation.
