The family, of six people, who were sitting under the tree have been injured and taken to hospital.
The emergency services had to perform life-saving measures on a teenage boy and a younger child. The condition is described as life-threatening.
The children’s mother and two other children are said to have sustained burns. One of the children was hit while it was in the mother’s arms, according to the report Picture.
A red value warning has been issued in 49 districts, mainly in central and southern Germany.
Strong storms with thunderstorms, rain and hail are expected around the country.
Focus writes that there is “danger to life and limb” and that flooding is expected in streets and basements.
The storm is expected to move east during the evening with “extreme storms”, according to the forecast.
