Chatham-Kent residents are being encouraged to make the holiday season brighter in their neighborhoods with a chance to win prizes.

The third annual Light Up Chatham-Kent initiative encourages residents to decorate their homes to help spread holiday cheer.

“The holiday season is a time for coming together, and there’s no better way to do that than by illuminating our community with the spirit of the season,” Mayor Darrin Canniff said in a release.
“Light Up Chatham-Kent. . . has become a cherished tradition, and it’s incredible to see how our residents’ creativity and holiday spirit shine through their festive displays,” he added. “We can’t wait to see the town aglow with holiday lights once again.”
The Chatham Canadian Tire store has joined as an event sponsor, the municipality said.
“It’s a testament to the strong sense of community in Chatham-Kent,” store owner Darcel Gonzales said. “It’s a testament to the strong sense of community in Chatham-Kent,” he added. “We’re excited to see the magic that local residents create with their holiday decorations.”

Some contests have been lined up for the event, which requires participants to register at letstalkchatham-kent.ca. See the website for details.
Those who add a pin to the online map at Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent will be automatically registered for a 12 Days of Christmas daily draw. Voting on house displays runs Dec. 13 to 19, with the tops three receiving Canadian Tire gift cards.
The holiday fun doesn’t end with house decorations, the municipality added.
“We also have some amazing community-driven holiday light displays in downtowns around Chatham-Kent, and we encourage everyone to add pictures and pins of these to our map,” the release said. “Your support will shine a spotlight on the incredible talent and creativity of our community members.”
