Tens of thousands gathered along the Danube in Budapest on Saturday to watch what was described as Europe’s biggest fireworks display.
The event was supposed to take place last weekend, but was postponed when the weather authority warned of rain.
No rain ever fell on the Hungarian capital, and the forecast miss led to the sacking of two top government officials. This in turn led to criticism of the government for exerting political pressure on independent research bodies.
