Life of Delta review

How useful can service robots be? In our Life of Delta review, we accompany Delta, who is trying to save a human’s life, on its way.

Life of Delta review I’ve been taking a look at the games of independent developers with an increasing enthusiasm lately. When independent productions first came into question, most of the games that came out did not impress me. For some reason, all of the productions put in front of us under the name of independent games were put in front of us with 2D, Pixel Art graphics and we were expected to play. Of course, I’m not saying this to criticize, but I learned a little late that it’s not my style.

Life of Delta review / PC

Life of Delta is one of these indie games. Developed by Airo Games and published by Daedalic Entertainment. You will also remember Daedalic in the game Children of Silentown, which I recently reviewed. I think it has become one of the major companies distributing games from indie developers over the past few years. Life of Delta is also distributed by the same company.

The production, which is in the Point and Click genre, is about robots that replace almost all humanity, which was destroyed after the Great War. Survivors at the end of the war are rotting service robots and humanoid lizards born from a long nuclear fallout.

Story

Our story begins here. While a small service robot is going to decompose in acidic liquid, a human named Joe rescues him and takes him under his protection. But this crime also has a price and one day he is taken by other robots to take him from his hiding place and punish him to the mega city. Left alone, Delta does not forget the good that was done for him and sets out to save his friend.

However, the city he must reach on his way out is extremely dangerous for robots of his size and type. There are many obstacles to pass. One of them is the vast, dangerous desert. Although he needs help from other robots to get there, he must first solve their problems and make them all functional, so to speak.

Riddles

The main mechanics of Life of Delta are based on solving puzzles and putting the pieces together. For example, in order to cross the desert, we need to operate the necessary aircraft, and for this, there are missing parts that we need to collect and circuits that need to be repaired. While trying to collect all these pieces, we also meet many new robots. While not all of these robots are friendly, our sweet language and resourcefulness allow us to go our own way while meeting their needs.

A different kind of riddle structure is created for each problem that needs to be solved. In some, we complete the circuits and allow the current to pass, while in others we help a chemist heal a desert cow with the materials in his hand.

Life of Delta Puzzles

The plot develops interconnected. In order to solve the problem of a robot and reach the part we need, we need help from another robot. On the other hand, we may need to reconnect with someone else we thought we were done with before. In short, while maintaining this whole cycle, we are making the robot ecosystem functional again.

Graphics

Developed with the Unity game engine, Life of Delta is very saturated graphically, as well as working very well even on low systems. Although the components of the system I tested were a bit old, I was able to proceed without any problems. I didn’t need it, but if you want, you can optimize the graphics settings of the game from the menu.

Although our game has extremely colorful graphics in a world after extinction, it almost never grinned.

Communication with other robots is very important

Sounds

Robots have their own language. As they speak, you can read their communication in English above them. While these give very important information, sometimes there can be unnecessary conversations. It’s important to follow along, though, because it’s from these conversations that you learn the missing piece of a puzzle or the content of your next mission. At the same time, the music playing at the bottom allows you to enter the environment.

Playability

Puzzles that form the basic structure of the game. However, it has an important problem that in many puzzles you do not have the slightest idea what to do. There is a circuit in front of you and you look at it and it looks at you. You don’t know if you need to complete a circuit or if there is a faulty part. Although some puzzles have a short explanation, sometimes all you have to do is click on various points of the screen to find out which pieces are moving or which you can act on. This can sometimes cause you to miss a small piece and it is challenging.

However, it will help you move forward if you consider what is functional in a circuit using your existing knowledge. For example, the processor needs a heatsink to run. With a little stubbornness, you’ll eventually solve the puzzle.

Life of Delta review

Although there is no boss at the end of the levels, you will encounter the most challenging puzzle that will take its place. It would be a lie if I said it took me an hour to pass some of them. Although there are tips, it is not easy to understand and apply them.

Another important point I should mention is that if you want to change settings during the game, you return to the main menu and start from the last save point when you make your settings. When solving a puzzle “Is there a key combination I don’t know?” I went back to the main menu. I was a little nervous when I realized that when I hit the “Continue” button after gaining control, I was back to the last save point and lost all the steps in between. Fortunately, since it didn’t take long for me to solve the puzzles, I solved them all in a short time and continued on my way. Now when I need to return to the menu again, I save first.

In the meantime, I can recommend the game for parents with peace of mind. It does not contain blood or gore-style elements. It encourages the player to exercise their mind and solve problems. It’s also a nice detail on the research that is sometimes inherent in adventure games.

Conclusion

If I say that I played Life of Delta for 16 hours without interruption after installing it, I think I would easily explain how much the game hooked me. I can’t give you exact information about the total duration of the game, but even if you are familiar with the genre, I’m sure it will at least offer more than 20 hours of gameplay.
