Life imprisonment for repeated sexual offences

Cold facts have followed how the police and other authorities failed to stop one of Sweden’s worst sex offenders. Several strong testimonies have come forward.

Now the government is open to introducing life imprisonment for repeated sexual offences

– We are open to, and are now also investigating, that, for example, a perpetrator who has committed several crimes in a row with regard to sexual crimes should be sentenced to life even if the individual crime is not life on the penalty scale, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M ) to TV4 Nyheterna.

He explains why it is important.

– If you relapse into crime, you have shown that you are so dangerous that it must also be taken into account when measuring the punishment, he says.

Reacts strongly to the revelation of Cold Facts

Gunnar Strömmer reacts strongly to Kalla fakta’s program and believes that society does not have sufficient ability to stop repeat offenders.

– I naturally think that it is extremely upsetting to take part in these testimonies and at the same time it is important that they come forward. It provides a very important background to the major changes that I see must take place, he says.

The Minister of Justice also believes that monitoring a person who is at risk of relapsing into serious crime may be relevant.
