Libya: floods have weakened the ancient site of Cyrene

Libya floods have weakened the ancient site of Cyrene

One of Libya’s largest archaeological sites is threatened with collapse after floods hit the east of the country. This is Cyrene. The ancient Greek colony, which gave its name to the region of Cyrenaica, is located near the town of Shahat, about sixty kilometers west of Derna. Quantities of dirty water have invaded the ruins and weakened the buildings still standing.
